Haohyohno (Ken Maracle) is a faith keeper of the Lower Cayuga Longhouse and a member of the Cayuga Nation, Iroquois Confederacy, Deer Clan.
Ken has been making reproduction Wampum Belts for more than 20 years. He also makes canes, Condolence Canes, Horn Rattles, Traditional Headdresses and more. Ken is one of the very few people who still make Wampum Beads, by hand, from the Quahog shell. Ken is very involved in the preservation of Haudenosaunee Culture and Languages. He is Chairman of the Board for Wadewayesdanih, Cayuga Immersion for adults and President of the Jake Thomas Learning Centre. Ken is a qualified and expert tutor on the subjects of Wampum Belts, The Great Law, Haudenosaunee Oral history, Longhouse Ceremonies, Cayuga Language and more. Ken is continuously learning the Ceremonies from his Elders so that he may fulfill his duties at the Longhouse and be able to teach the next generation all that he has learned. Ken is willing to share his artistry with others. He has given cultural presentations and/or Wampum workshops for various organizations and schools throughout NY State, Ontario and BC. He can provide workshops on; 1. Wampum beads from the quahog shell 2. Replica Wampum Belts 3. Iroquoian style horn rattles 4. Traditional Iroquoian Gahsdo:wah (headdress) 5. Condolence Canes Ken is also qualified to teach classes in; Longhouse Teachings, Iroquoian History, Condolence Ceremony , Roll Call of the Confederacy and more.
